Changing Your Medicare Plan in Greenville, TX

Keeping the same Medicare plan year after year is fine, as long as you decide to keep it each fall. Networks, drug tiers and copays shift every January, and a plan that worked for you in Quinlan or Celeste a few years back may cost more today.

With a window open, the switch itself is rarely hard. Below you'll see how to know if a window is open for you and what to weigh first.

  • Find out if you can make a change today
  • Keep the doctors and drugs you count on
  • A no-cost review, and no pressure to switch

A move within Texas can open a window

Even a short hop from Greenville to Rockwall County might leave your plan's service area. When it does, you get a Special Enrollment Period. Tell us when you're moving and we'll look into it.

Reasons

Good reasons to take another look

  • Your doctor or hospital is no longer in the network
  • A drug you take now sits on a higher tier, or isn't covered
  • Another Medigap rate increase arrived
  • Everyday visits cost more in copays than you planned on
  • You now qualify for Extra Help or a Texas Medicare Savings Program
  • You moved, retired from a job, or lost employer coverage

Switching doesn't always help. Your current plan might still beat everything else we can offer in Hunt County. When that's true, staying makes sense, and we'll say so. A long working relationship matters more to us than moving you for a single year.

Switching plans in Hunt County

In Greenville, most switching questions start with Hunt Regional Medical Center and then turn to Dallas County. Two plans can look the same in town and still split on specialists in Garland, Dallas or Rockwall. Those contracts can change at renewal, too. Getting cancer care? Give us your oncologist's name so we can check. If you go to the Greenville VA Clinic, consider how VA care and the new plan will work together. Not sure we serve your town? Check our service areas.

Process

How a plan change works

  1. 1

    Begin with your current plan

Grab your plan card, your drug list and the names of doctors you don't want to lose.

  2. 2

    Compare the whole year

We add up a full year of premiums, deductibles and copays, and check the network and drug tiers too.

  3. 3

    Confirm your window

Before you sign, we confirm you're allowed to switch and when the new coverage begins.

  4. 4

    Enroll and watch the changeover

We submit the application, wait for the confirmation, and make sure the old plan stops the day the new one begins.

Just starting to compare? Read our Medicare plans overview, look at Advantage vs. Medigap, or go over the mistakes to avoid before making a change.

Questions

Common questions about switching plans in Greenville

Am I free to change Medicare plans whenever I want?
No. You need an open window. For most people that's Annual Open Enrollment, from October 15 to December 7. Outside those weeks, a Special Enrollment Period may open if you move, lose job coverage or your plan pulls out of Hunt County.
My specialist dropped out of my plan's network. What should I do?
Take a fresh look at your options. When a Hunt Regional doctor, or a specialist in Dallas or Garland, exits your Advantage network, we'll see if any window is open. If one is, we line up a new plan so your coverage doesn't lapse.
Will moving open a new window?
It depends on where you land. Leaving your plan's service area can trigger a Special Enrollment Period. A move inside that same area usually won't. Tell us the date and your new address, and we'll check.
Can I drop Medicare Advantage and go back to Medigap?
Yes, Original Medicare is open to you each fall in Open Enrollment, and again from January through March in the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. Getting a Medigap plan is harder. Once your first six months on Part B are behind you, insurers usually ask health questions. Without a guaranteed issue right, they may say no.
Is there a yearly Medigap switching window in Texas?
No. Elsewhere, certain states hand people a yearly chance to trade Medigap plans around a birthday or anniversary date, skipping health questions. Texas has no such rule. Here, a new insurer will usually want you to fill out a health questionnaire.
Is there a charge to find out whether I can switch?
No. We check your window and compare plans for free, whether you end up switching or not.
