Medicare notes for Caddo Mills
Long before the town, the Caddo people camped along the creeks here, and settlers came in the late 1850s. Around 1879, I.T. Johnson and Henry King built a gristmill, and people started calling the place Caddo Mills. A post office opened that June, the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway came through in 1886, and the city incorporated in the early 1940s. Caddo Mills had 1,495 residents in the 2020 census. State Highway 66 runs through the middle of town, and the city also owns a small general aviation airport.
Hunt Regional Family Medicine Caddo Mills is at 4264 Hwy. 66, so a regular checkup doesn't have to mean leaving town. For hospital care, Hunt Regional Medical Center Greenville is east on I-30, and Hunt Regional Medical Center Royse City, open around the clock with an emergency department, is to the west. If you also see a doctor in Rockwall or the Dallas area, write every name down. A Medicare Advantage plan works through its network, so each doctor and both hospitals need checking. Medigap Plan G or Plan N is accepted by any doctor who takes Medicare, and that helps when your care is spread between Hunt County and the Dallas side.
The Connection, the public transit service run by Senior Center Resources and Public Transit, includes Caddo Mills in its service area. Rides run weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and riders 60 and older pay nothing for trips to the doctor, the pharmacy or a senior center meal. Call (903) 454-1444 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at least a day ahead. The same group runs a Park & Ride from Greenville to the Rowlett DART station for trips into Dallas.
Drug costs deserve a close look. Each Part D plan sets its own drug list, tiers and preferred pharmacies, so the same prescriptions can cost much more on one plan than another. Send us your list with doses and the pharmacy you use, and we'll price it against the plans we offer. For free counseling, call HICAP at 800-252-9240. Meals on Wheels, also run by Senior Center Resources and Public Transit, brings meals to homebound seniors across Hunt County.
Want a second look at your coverage? A free plan review by phone is one call away. We'll match your doctors, prescriptions and budget to the plans we offer in Caddo Mills. Annual Enrollment comes each fall, October 15 to December 7. Use it to confirm your doctors will stay in network next year. Prefer to read up first? Compare Medicare Advantage against Medicare Supplement plans, look over Part D drug coverage, or plan your turning-65 dates.
