Medicare counseling and benefits

HICAP (Health Information, Counseling and Advocacy Program)
Free, unbiased Medicare counseling from the state of Texas. Certified benefits counselors answer questions about plan choices, bills, appeals and Extra Help applications. In Hunt County they work through the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging. Call 800-252-9240.

North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging
Covers Hunt County and 13 others around Dallas-Fort Worth. Offers free benefits counseling to anyone 60 or older or on Medicare, plus caregiver support. Call 800-272-3921, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Social Security, Greenville office
2717 Terrell Rd., Greenville. Visit to enroll in Part A or Part B, file a retirement or disability claim, or apply for Extra Help. The office is open weekdays, and booking an appointment ahead is a good idea. Call 1-800-772-1213 or go to ssa.gov.

Texas Medicare Savings Programs
Run by Texas Health and Human Services. All three programs, QMB, SLMB and QI, can cover your Part B premium. QMB goes further and pays Medicare deductibles and coinsurance as well. You can apply online at YourTexasBenefits.com, send in Form H1200, or get help from HICAP.

Rides, meals and the library

The Connection public transit
Run by Senior Center Resources and Public Transit. Rides anywhere in Hunt County, weekdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Riders 60 and up ride free to medical visits, the pharmacy and senior center meals, and to the grocery store once a week. Book a day ahead at (903) 454-1444.

Park & Ride to Dallas
The Connection runs a Park & Ride from Greenville to the Rowlett DART station. Seniors pay $5 each way. Group trips to the Dallas area are also offered. Call (903) 454-1444 for times.

Meals on Wheels of Hunt County
Also run by Senior Center Resources and Public Transit, 4912 Lee St. Meals are cooked in a central kitchen in Greenville and delivered to homebound seniors across the county. Call (903) 454-1444, ext. 14, to sign up.

Greenville Senior Center
4912 Lee St. Open weekdays 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with lunch at noon. Other meal sites meet in Commerce, Wolfe City, Lone Oak and West Tawakoni. Call (903) 454-1444, ext. 14, to reserve a meal.

1 Lou Finney Blvd., Greenville. The city's public library, named for local historian W. Walworth Harrison. Call (903) 457-2992 for hours and programs.

Hunt Regional Medical Center Greenville
4215 Joe Ramsey Blvd. E. The county's full hospital, with a 24-hour emergency department. The Commerce and Quinlan ERs closed in 2025, so this is the main ER for much of the county. Call (903) 408-5000.

Greenville VA Clinic
8325 Jack Finney Blvd. VA North Texas checkups, lab work and pharmacy for enrolled veterans, weekdays 8 to 4:30. The VA does not bill Medicare, so ask how your VA care fits with any Medicare plan.
Confirm your hospital before a plan change
Networks can change every January. If you have Medicare Advantage in Greenville, check that Hunt Regional, and any Dallas-area hospital you use, is still in network for next year.
Help with premiums and drug costs
If money is tight, Extra Help may shrink your Part D costs. A Texas Medicare Savings Program may pay your Part B premium. For help filling out the forms, call HICAP at 800-252-9240. We can also talk with you about whether you're likely to qualify.
