Medicare notes for Royse City
Nancy McCasland and her sons bought land here around 1850, but the town took shape in 1885, when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway arrived. G. B. Royse laid out the townsite, sold the first lots and helped bring the rail line through, so the town carries his name. Interstate 30 was built just south of town in the mid-1960s, and the city has grown south to meet it. Royse City had 13,508 residents in the 2020 census.
Royse City is a Rockwall County city, but its limits reach north into Collin County and east into Hunt County. That matters for Medicare. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, so neighbors on two sides of a county line can see different plan lists. Give us your full street address and we'll look up the plans for your county. Medigap rules are the same everywhere in Texas, though prices can change with your ZIP code.
Hunt Regional Medical Center Royse City, at 6743 I-30 E., is open 24 hours with an emergency department, imaging and a lab. Hunt Regional Family Medicine Royse City is in the same building, and Hunt Regional Urgent Care Royse City is at 576 W. I-30. The system's full hospital is in Greenville. If you also see doctors in Rockwall, Garland or Dallas, check each one by name in any Medicare Advantage network, or price a Medicare Supplement, which works with any doctor who accepts Medicare. Veterans can use the VA medical center on Marie Curie Blvd. in Garland.
STAR Transit offers shared curb-to-curb rides for people inside Royse City limits, including homes on the Collin and Hunt County sides. Book at least one business day ahead at (877) 631-5278, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and ask about senior fares. If you moved here from another area and your old Medicare Advantage or Part D plan doesn't serve your new address, the move opens a Special Enrollment Period. For free Medicare counseling, call HICAP at 800-252-9240.
