Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans in Greenville, TX

Original Medicare picks up much of the cost when you see a doctor or stay in the hospital. You still owe deductibles, coinsurance and copays. A Medicare Supplement plan, also called Medigap, pays most of those for you, so your yearly costs stay close to even.

Each Medigap plan has a letter, and federal rules fix the benefits behind each one. Plan G pays the same from every insurer that sells it. What changes from company to company is the price, the service you get and how fast the rate climbs.

  • See any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare
  • An even monthly premium and few unexpected bills
  • No network to stay inside and no referrals
  • Coverage that goes with you across the U.S.

How it works

Medicare pays first, and Medigap covers most of the rest

Part A and Part B still do the heavy lifting. Say you visit Hunt Regional Medical Center or a Hunt County clinic that takes Medicare. Medicare pays its part of the bill, then sends the balance straight to your Medigap insurer. With Plan G, the one bill most people see all year for Medicare-covered care is the $283 Part B deductible for 2026.

You won't need to ask whether a doctor is in network, because there isn't one. Any provider who takes Medicare will take you, in Greenville, near your kids in another state, or on vacation. Prescriptions aren't part of Medigap, so you'll likely want a Part D drug plan next to it.

That freedom counts for a lot in Hunt County, where many people see specialists outside the county. You might have a family doctor in Greenville, a heart doctor in Rockwall and a surgeon in Dallas. Veterans may also use the Greenville VA Clinic along with Medicare. Medigap treats each of those Medicare providers the same way, whatever county they're in. We work with people all over Hunt County.

PlanMonthly premiumWhat you payUsually a good match for
Plan GThe highest of the threeOnly the yearly Part B deductibleAnyone who'd like hardly any bills at all
Plan NMiddle of the rangePart B deductible, small copays at the doctor and ER, and possible excess chargesHealthy people who don't see doctors often and want a smaller premium

Rates can rise. Benefits can't change.

Since the law fixes what Medigap pays, the premium is what you watch. We can price your Plan G or Plan N against other carriers each year so loyalty to one insurer doesn't cost you extra.

Medigap leaves out prescriptions

Drug coverage comes from its own Part D plan. If you pass on it at first and have no other creditable drug coverage, you may pay a late penalty for life.

Timing

Your six-month Medigap window

Medigap gives you a single six-month open enrollment period. It opens in the first month you have Part B and are at least 65. Through those six months any Medigap plan sold in Texas is yours to buy with no health questions. Your medical past can't raise your rate or get you turned down.

After that, an insurer may want your health history. Most applicants are approved anyway. Still, insulin for diabetes, home oxygen or a heart procedure in the recent past can leave you with fewer choices. Texas doesn't have a yearly birthday or anniversary window for switching Medigap plans without health questions, so the choice you make first matters more here. If you're turning 65 in Greenville, give us a call about three months before.

  • Six months with no health questions once Part B begins
  • No network, no referrals, no plan shopping each fall
  • Stays in force as long as the premium gets paid
  • Certain events, like your plan leaving the area, bring a guaranteed issue right

Under 65

Have Medicare before 65? Texas rules work differently.

Did a disability qualify you for Medicare? Then for your first six months on Part B, Texas insurers have to sell you Plan A and can't ask health questions. Plan A is the only plan they must offer, and they may charge you more than a 65-year-old pays.

The rules are stronger if you're under 65 with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or ALS. Since September 1, 2025, Texas law has made insurers offer you every Medigap plan open to people 65 and older. Your six-month window comes with no health questions, and the law limits what you can be charged.

Turning 65 starts a brand new six-month Medigap window, just like everyone else gets. You can choose any plan from any insurer and pay the rate for a 65-year-old. The Texas Department of Insurance has the details, and we're happy to walk through how they apply to you.

Is it right for you?

Who usually goes with Medigap in Hunt County

  • Your specialists are in Dallas County

Heart, cancer or orthopedic care in Garland or Dallas can mean copays and network questions on an Advantage plan. Medigap keeps the cost the same wherever the doctor practices.
  • You want to know what you'll pay

Many retirees on a fixed income prefer a bigger premium they can budget for over an out-of-pocket maximum they might reach.
  • You travel or winter somewhere else

Your coverage follows you to any provider in the country who accepts Medicare, with no out-of-area rules.

If a small premium and built-in dental or gym benefits matter more, read about Medicare Advantage in Greenville. You can also set the two side by side on our Advantage vs. Medigap page.

Underwriting

Applying outside a protected window

Two times protect you from health questions: your six-month Medigap window, and any time you hold a guaranteed issue right. Outside of those, expect questions about diagnoses, surgeries, medications and pending tests. The insurer can then say no or charge you more.

You may have a guaranteed issue right if your Advantage plan pulls out of your area or your employer group plan ends. It also applies if an insurer misled you, or if you joined an Advantage plan at 65 and drop it within 12 months. Each of these rights runs out fast, so we talk about your health first, before any application starts.

If health questions could be a problem, we'll say so at the start and go over Medicare Advantage with you instead of sending in an application likely to be declined. Have a plan now and want out? See our page on changing Medicare plans.

Rates

Rate increases, travel and a yearly price check

How Medigap premiums change

The benefits never change, so the price is what moves. A lot of insurers price by attained age. Your rate goes up with each birthday, and it can climb again when the company lifts rates across the board. Give it a few years and two insurers may charge far apart for the very same Plan G.

We're glad to compare your rate with the other carriers we represent once a year. Since Texas offers no yearly switching window, a new insurer will usually want health answers. It's easiest to move while you're healthy.

Seeing doctors anywhere you go

Paired with Original Medicare, Medigap is accepted by every U.S. provider that takes Medicare. Seeing someone in Rockwall, Garland, Dallas or out of state takes no referral and no network check.

Plan G, Plan N and a few others pay for some emergency care outside the U.S. A deductible and a lifetime cap apply. Planning a long stay overseas? Travel medical insurance is still worth buying.

Common questions

Medigap questions to ask before you apply

When should I apply?
Roughly three months before Part B begins. Your six-month window with no health questions then opens right on schedule, and none of it goes to waste. Your dates are on the turning 65 timeline.
Do I still need a drug plan with Medigap?
Most people do. Medigap pays nothing toward prescriptions. If you have no other creditable drug coverage, pick up a Part D plan too, or you could owe a late penalty that never goes away.
Is there a yearly Medigap switching window in Texas?
No. A few states give people a window around their birthday or policy anniversary to change Medigap plans without health questions. Texas isn't one of them. After your first six months, a new insurer can ask about your health unless you have a guaranteed issue right.
I got Medicare early due to a disability. Is Medigap open to me in Texas?
Yes, with some limits. For your first six months on Part B, Texas insurers must offer you Plan A and can't ask about your health. They may price it above what a 65-year-old pays. When ESRD or ALS is what qualified you, a Texas law passed in 2025 opens up every plan a 65-year-old can buy, and it caps what insurers may charge. Once you reach 65, a fresh six-month window lets you pick any plan from any insurer.
Could my insurer drop my Medigap plan?
Not over your health. The policy renews each year while you keep paying the premium.
Is Plan F still available?
Only if you first became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. Newer enrollees choose among Plan G, high-deductible Plan G and Plan N.
Are the benefits different between insurers?
No. Plan G pays the same benefits no matter who sells it. Insurers differ on price, how often they raise rates, and how they treat customers.
Where can I get free, unbiased Medicare counseling in Texas?
HICAP (the Health Information, Counseling and Advocacy Program of Texas) offers free counseling and doesn't sell insurance. The number is 800-252-9240.
